Vox Phantom bass |
||
Here's a very rare early-build vintage Phantom Bass. Note that this is a genuine UK-built version, before production was switched to Italy. Details which differ from subsequent (more common and less valuable) versions are the headstock logo, which reads "Phantom" rather than the later "Vox", the unbound neck, lack of clip-on padding at the rear, and the toggle (rather than rotary) pickup selector switch. Totally original, except for a brilliant pro refret by Dave Ulbrick. All electrics work well, and all hardware and paint is original. The paint has a few checks and small marks - see the detailed photographs in the 'more pictures' section below. These 'coffin-shaped' Vox Phantoms are highly collectable, both in guitar and bass form, and none more so than the original, rare UK-made examples. This Phantom bass is also extremely useable, having a full-length scale of 34", contributing to its great tone. This classic example in its original white finish is particularly attractive. Unfortunately, we do not have the case. The serial number on the back of the headstock is 68985 (Italian-made examples have the serial number on the neck plate), and the date stamp on the neck indicates Nov 1965, while the neck pocket has a stamp of ?? August 1965 (I can't make out the digits). Both neck and neck pocket also have a "G" stamped on them. This would have made this bass one of the last to be made in the UK before production switched to Italy. Sold to Dan in Connecticut, USA |
