Asturias is a high-quality guitar manufacturer in Japan, and was founded in 1962. They were until recently a low-volume manufacturer concentrating on high quality, and are still in existence. The brand is highly regarded in Japan, and we have had the pleasure of selling a slightly later AST-60 some years back, which shipped to a very appreciative new owner in the USA - it can be seen here.

This lovely made-in-Japan classical guitar (Asturias AST60 model) has a date stamp on the brace just in front of the sound hole showing a production date of 16/5/80. It is in stunning condition, and comes with its original case, complete with integral padded top cover, and a tuning fork in the pocket!

The soundboard displays a few very light fingernail marks which can be seen in reflected light, and that is about it! This guitar has been extremely well cared-for, and sounds lively and responsive. It is extremely playable, with an action of just 3mm on both the treble and bass sides. Scale length is 658mm, with a neck width of 50mm at the nut and 61mm at the body join/12th fret. String spacing is 44mm/50mm.

The guitar has a solid Cedar top, and Rosewood back and sides. Neck is Mahogany, while the fretboard is luscious, high-quality Rosewood. This early made in Japan (MIJ) AST-60 has a higher degree of crafstamnship and adornment than the later ones I have seen - check out the beautiful inlay work on the centre join of the back (see the 'more pictures' link below), and the stunning figuring of the solid Rosewood used in its construction.

If you are looking for a high-quality hand-made classical guitar at a bargain price, this is an ideal opportunity.
