For decades I have wanted to add a classic tractor to the collection. With the planned move of the collection to a larger shed on a larger block, the fact it may even earn its keep was an added incentive.
I followed the advice of a good friend and colleague, Trevor McIntosh of Pyramid Hill Mechanical and Welding Services - the most capable engineer I have ever met! He advised the Massey Ferguson 135 and 165 were a good tractor to look for, being both reliable and very usable. However, the look was a little too '1960s' for me, so the Mk2 version of the 65 (which pre-dated the 165 but had the venerable Perkins AD4.203 diesel motor was what I set my heart on).
One was eventually located on a farm where it had lived its life, and was still being occasionally used, just 55km from my home, so it was purchased and picked up on the trusty Kelly St Classics Isuzu beavertail truck.
Watch this space for developments!
