| Dating from April 1977, this is a very rare guitar. This vintage Maton Messiah acoustic guitar is a very interesting early example of a model that has continued to enjoy recognition and commercial success at the top end of the Maton guitar range, always employing solid top-quality tonewoods, distinctive styling, and flawless workmanship. This is almost certainly the best surviving example of the first series (MS1), of which only 95 were made between 1975 and 1977. This is number 58. The condition is astoundingly good, with a few light marks here and there, but ridiculously little play wear to the original frets and Ebony fretboard (why is it we never see Ebony as inky black, silky smooth and fine-grained as this any more?) The guitar has a solid Spruce top (just check out how finely-spaced the grain is in the 'more pictures' link below!), with solid Maple back and sides. More than 30 years of ageing have made the guitar a lot more mellow and balanced than I'd expected from the Maple body, and the sound and playability resulted in my hanging on to the guitar for some time before offering it for sale. It is incredibly powerful - while remaining composed and focussed - when played hard with a pick, but remains detailed and responsive when played fingerstyle. I am very, very impressed with this grouse guitar. It sounds and plays vastly better than the new Messiah I bought and played about 6 years back. Neck is Mahogany, with the luscious Ebony fretboard I've already mentioned. The headstock has a lovely Maple and Rosewood face, with mother-of-pearl inlays. Original tuners are gold-plated Grovers. The original plush-lined hard-shell case comes with this stunning vintage Maton acoustic guitar. Sold to buyer in Sydney
