Anyone looking seriously at this guitar already knows about the Maton Flamingo (model number F555), so I won't repeat the obvious. Check out the Maton archive pdf on their website here.

This is one of my favourite vintage Maton models, being super cool while having a unique Aussie quality (innocence?) about it. This is by far the best example I have ever come across in more than 30 years of collecting vintage guitars. It's in the must-have 'flamingo' colour (why ever did they also offer the Flamingo model in Deep Purple (!) and White?), and is totally original. Just the slightest indication the guitar has ever been played - the tiniest of chips and marks here and there (see the 'more pictures' link below) and barely perceptible fret wear on the original, never-dressed frets. There is a hairline crack on the pickguard between the selector switch and the neck pickup. And check out the condition of the original (and oh-so-cool!) hard shell case!

This superb vintage Maton has had just two previous owners, and the last owner purchased the guitar from his friend back in 1970. I purchased this gem in 2011, so he owned it for 41 years!

Serial number is 492, placing this guitar either in late 1963 or early 1964. This model was only ever made between 1963 and 1965, with serial numbers ranging from 101 to 1437. Later models (late '64 into '65) were much more Stratocaster®-like in their shape, and are less desirable. This is one of the very distinctive, and desirable, early body shape guitars.

Super collectable, super cool. Distinctly Australian.
