Here is a very original example of one of Gibson's most popular acoustic guitars. The J-45 and J-50 (the J-50 is essentially a J-45 with a natural finish) have featured on countless stages and recordings. These earlier 'round-shouldered' guitars are held in much higher regard than later square-shouldered examples. Top is solid Spruce, back sides and neck are Mahogany, fretboard is Brazilian Rosewood.

This lovely old girl (serial number 126692) was sold new in Australia back in 1963, and it still has its original Australian-made Stamford hard case. Imported guitars at the time were sold with local cases to avoid the high import duties that applied to imported cases at the time. The case shows its age, with plenty of abrasion marks and wear to the exterior, but being a deluxe plywood (not cardboard) case, is still as solid as the day it was made. The yellow plush lining is a particularly nice retro touch!

Everything is original, from the Kluson tuners through to the adjustable bridge. The body shows some minor bumps and scrapes from its 43 years of being a loved and played instrument. The Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard shows play wear on the first three positions, but the frets are all in fantastic order. Neck set and straightness is perfect. This is a very nice, very original, very toneful guitar for either the collector or the working musician.
