This vintage Ibanez copy of a Gibson 'reverse' korina Firebird falls right in the 'lawsuit' era.

In the autumn of 1963 to mid-1965 Gibson produced the "Reverse Firebird:, which featured;

  • Reverse" body style with treble horn larger than bass horn
  • raised middle section of body
  • 2 special mini-humbucking pickups with metal cover and metal mounting ring (no adjustable poles)
  • 3 ply white pickguard with beveled edge that is only on the treble side of the pickups
  • Tune-o-matic bridge
  • deluxe vibrato with tubular lever arm with plastic end cap
  • beveled peghead edge
  • metal tailpiece cover engraved with "Gibson" and leaf and lyre
  • single bound fingerboard
  • trapezoid fingerboard inlays.
  • 1964 and later models have red engraved Firebird on the pickguard

Note some transition Firebirds during the summer of 1965 had mixed reverse and non-reverse features, and it is one of these that Ibanez obviously used as a reference when they made this guitar, as it displays the non-reverse headstock design, giving a very cool and rare result!

This rare guitar comes in its original hard shell case. There are some markings to the body (see detailed pics) but the guitar is incredibly original and complete, except for the missing tremolo arm.

Not only does this guitar look cool. It sounds great!
