| Here we have a lovely Fender Precision Bass in original custom Black finish with an absolutely gorgeous Rosewood fretboard. This bass was owned by the previous female owner for 30 years, and for the last 20 years it has simply sat in her wardrobe unused, so the bass has very little wear. She bought it privately (in Cairns, Qld) when the bass would have been about 5 years old. Serial number is 605692, with pot codes 1377348 (48th week of 1973) and pickup codes 142674 and 263074 (both 1974 production). As is the case with many Fender instruments from the 1970s, the date stamp on the heel of the neck is too faint to read. They are often smudged, or simply not even stamped. The 01 prefix (for Precision Bass) can just be seen, but the rest of the numbers are pure guesswork. The employee stamp of Herb G is present, which is correct for the era. While I think the bass was actually made in 1974, I'll err on the side of caution and say (due to the serial number - even though the stamped F serial neck plates are notoriously unreliable for dating) that it's a 1975. The black finish on the Alder body is definitely factory original. There are some scuffs and minor markings on the finish of the body (with only a few minor chips through the finish), plus the obligatory cigarette burn on the headstock, but the wear on the neck, frets and fingerboard is virtually non-existent. It would be very hard to find another mid '70s bass with as little play wear as this! Tthe bass plays well and sounds fantastic, and the truss rod and electronics all function perfectly. This is a completely issue-free vintage Fender P-bass. The bass came to us in an original Fender black tolex hard shell case that dates from a bit earlier than the instrument itself. It has the Fender logo with the tail, dating the case to between 1967 and 1972. The left hand latch on the case is missing, but overall the case is in well used but very functional condition, and would actually be worth quite a bit in itself. The case also has a nice collection of period stickers adorning it, and there is even an original '70s Fender strap in the pocket! (see the 'more pictures' link below) went to Tony
