| Rarely do vintage Fenders of this standard come up for sale. This 1974 Fender Telecaster Custom has had just two careful owners. It has always been kept in its case, so the lightness of the maple of the neck and the vividness of the Sunburst finish has not diminished at all. The guitar is visually very striking, especially when you realise the age of the guitar. The original case still contains the original Owner's Manual, Fender leather guitar strap, polishing cloth, case keys, bridge and micro-tilt adjuster Allen key and even a 1970s 'curly cord'! It's like opening a time capsule after more than 30 years. The guitar does show a little play wear, mainly plectrum marks on the pick-guard and the edge of the original Seth Lover humbucker pickup, and some wear to the clear finish on the edge of the neck (see the close-up photos in the 'more pictures' link below), but would still be at least a 9/10. There are some minor surface marks which would polish out, but no dings or buckle rash. This guitar has been extremely well cared-for by its two owners. The vintage Telecaster is definitely to a standard that would delight a collector, as well as being a fantastic playing instrument. The tone of these 'Keith Richards' Telecaster Custom models is amazing, with a perfect balance between the bridge single-coil and neck humbucker pickups. This guitar can jazz, rock or twang or anything in between. And how often do you see the original 'Made in USA' sticker on the back of the headstock? Weight is nice at a medium 3.8kg (8.4 pounds). The original Fender black tolex hard case must be one of the last to have the Fender logo with the tail (these cases were produced from 1967 until mid 1972), as the guitar's serial number of 558146 places its likely production date in early 1974.
