This is about as cool as a vintage guitar gets! This 1966 Gretsch Silver Duke is in absolutely collector grade condition, with almost no play wear at all. It even comes with the original case, although it needed some re-gluing to stop it falling apart. The original case is very cool-looking (see the more pictures link below), but is made from glorified cardboard, so is a very, very rare item indeed. The Silver Duke is a limited-edition version of the Corvette, a special order in 1966 for California dealer Sherman Clay. The finish on the Silver Duke is a white lacquer with silver flakes through it and chrome hardware, while the Gold Duke had a gold-flake finish with gold-plated hardware. Legend has it that the guitars were named in honour of Duke Kramer, an important man in Gretsch's history. The serial number on this guitar (#86867) shows it to be the 867th Gretsch built in August 1966. As mentioned, the guitar is in collector-grade condition, with the smallest of marks here and there and a chip on the headstock being about the only indications it was ever played. No breaks, no cracks, no repairs; just a totally original, extremely rare, extremely cool vintage Gretsch solidbody. It's a great guitar to play, too, and weighs a mere 3kg, or 6 lb and 9.82 oz. $ not recently valued for the present market but feel free to make a serious offer.
