| What a beautiful guitar. To look at, to play, and to hear! In response to the huge surge in the popularity of folk-based popular music in the early 1960s, Guild produced their first dreadnoughts in 1963. Guild's designers focused on string-to-string balance for even projection of treble, mid, and bass ranges. Their success made Guild dreadnoughts revered almost immediately. Guild’s flagship model, the D55, was first introduced in 1968 as a special order item only, but the response was so strong that within a few years it was added to the line as a regular production model. The D55 is prized by players worldwide - just read the Harmony Central owner reviews here! This model features a solid AAA Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood back and sides, a three-piece Mahogany neck, Ebony bridge (with abalone-tipped pins) and fretboard with Mother-of-Pearl and Abalone block position inlays, and G-shield logo. The back as well as the front are multi-bound, and the neck is both bound and inset with elegant purfling. This example is one of the last made at the highly regarded Westerly, Rhode Island, factory, before new owners Fender moved the whole operation to Corona, California, and then to the newly-acquired Tacoma Guitars factory in Tacoma, Washington. Serial number of AD551324 puts the likely manufacture year at 2001, the year the operation was moved to Corona. The guitar is very close to absolute mint condition. There is no play wear, no chips or scratches, and only the lightest of handling marks at all. Even the gold-plating on the deluxe Grover tuners is as-new. The original, heavy-duty plush-lined hardshell case shows external evidence of being used, so the guitar was obviously brought from place to place by its original owner, but then barely played! This is a purchase for life - you will not be disappointed with this beautiful Guild. Sold to Jim
